    Step 1: Check transfer eligibility

    Domains must be at least 60 days old and cannot have been transferred in the last 60 days (ICANN's Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy). Your domain must also not be in Redemption Grace Period or expired status. Log in to your current registrar and check the domain status.

    Step 2: Unlock your domain

    Most registrars apply a "transfer lock" to prevent unauthorised transfers. In your registrar's domain management panel, find the "Transfer Lock" or "Registrar Lock" setting and disable it. This is usually found under Domain Settings or Security Settings.

    Step 3: Disable WHOIS privacy temporarily

    Some registrars require WHOIS privacy to be disabled during transfer so the receiving registrar can send the authorisation email to the registrant address. Check your destination registrar's requirements. many modern registrars handle this automatically without disabling privacy.

    Step 4: Request the EPP/Auth code

    Also called the "transfer authorisation code", "EPP code", or "Auth-Info code", this is a password that authorises the transfer. Find this in your current registrar's dashboard under Transfer or Security settings. It is usually sent to your account email address. Copy it carefully. It's case-sensitive.

    Step 5: Initiate the transfer at the new registrar

    Log in to (or create an account at) your chosen destination registrar. Find the "Transfer Domain" option, enter your domain name, and paste the EPP code when prompted. Review the transfer cost. ICANN requires a 1-year registration extension to be included, so you typically get a year of registration added at transfer.

    Step 6: Approve the transfer

    The transfer process sends an approval email to the WHOIS registrant email address. Click the approval link to expedite the transfer. Without explicit approval, transfers complete automatically after 5 calendar days under ICANN policy. Keep an eye on your email and spam folder.

    Step 7: Verify DNS settings after transfer

    After the transfer completes (usually 2–7 days, or faster with approval), verify your domain's nameservers are correctly set at the new registrar. Your website and email should continue working without interruption if nameservers were preserved. If not, re-enter your hosting nameservers in the new registrar's DNS settings.
